University Policy 5101: Solicitation for Private Funds
This link will take you to the full text of the university's policy governing the solicitation of
private funds. Policy 5101 assigns the Division of University Advancement responsibility for establishing
policies, developing operational guidelines, and managing fundraising activities to meet goals. It also
defines the responsibilities of each departmental area within the university as they pertain to fundraising,
and lists the basic procedures to be followed in the implementation of the policy.
Below are downloadable forms designed to facilitate the involvement of JMU faculty and staff in the fundraising enterprise:
Worksheet for Requesting Private Fundraising Assistance
This form gives faculty, staff, academic and administrative leadership a way to communicate fundraising possibilities to the development office; to give you an effective means of asserting priorities for your division, college or unit; and to give the development office the means to evaluate the timing, feasibility and fundraising potential of these ideas.
TOO (Target of Opportunity) Form
Development Office fundraising efforts are guided by the priorities supported through the Madison Century Campaign. However, special fundraising opportunities occasionally present themselves in the form of good timing and donors with very specific interests. The TOO form is designed to help us respond to these "targets of opportunity" in a timely manner. We encourage any faculty or staff member, department or unit head, or dean or program director to complete a TOO form making the case for the fundraising initiative(s) of interest to them. These are kept on file to expedite a prompt response when a special opportunity to fund their initiatives arises.
Prospect Identification Form
Fundraising is a collaborative partnership between the JMU Development Office and the university's faculty, staff and academic and administrative leadership. We will have the most success securing private gift support for your department, college or unit if you can assist us in identifying those who might have a special interest in supporting your programs. The Prospect Identification Form is designed to assist you and those working in your area in sharing with the Development Office the names of potential major gift donors, with "major gift" defined as a commitment of a minimum of $25,000 or more payable over a period of up to five years.
