Debate Union
JMU Duke Dog

Welcome to the James Madison University Debate Union homepage!

If you've debated before, or even if you haven't, joining the squad is a great way to become involved with James Madison, and improve your speaking and persuasion skills while you're at it!

If you have any questions at any time, please feel free to email the Director of Debate, Dr. Mike Davis.

Our debate program has two different activities, Policy Debate and the Madison Debate Society.

Our Policy Debate Team is for those of you looking for a competitive activity, that includes traveling to and competing against a wide variety of universities, in-depth research, a fun, close-knit team, fast-talking and quick thinking. If you are unfamiliar with policy debate, you can learn more about the activity here. Also visit CEDA debate for more information on the upcoming 10/11 school year topic.

This fall will be the first semester that the Madison Debate Society will become active in full swing. Although a new club, it will quickly become a prestigious organization, perfect for James Madison University students looking to get involved in debate and activism on a more local level, as you meet and discuss relevant issues ranging from matters affecting JMU, Harrisonburg, the US, or the international community, with other students, faculty and guest speakers.
