Dr. Mike Davis - Director of Debate, JMU

2000 East Region Coach of the Year, 2008 Director of the Year, Has coached 16 teams to the National Debate Tournament in 12 years of coaching, Coached one of only 18 teams to go undefeated at the National Debate Tournament


Paul Mabrey - Assistant Director of Debate, JMU


Won several regional tournaments (NW CEDA Champs, UNT, UCO), advanced into elims at many national tournaments (Wake, GSU, USC, Fullerton, Kentucky, CEDA and NDT Nationals) and was consistently recognized as a top fifteen individual speaker. Has assisted in coaching teams into elimination rounds at CEDA and the National Debate Tournament

Kris Willis - Director of Debate at the University of Florida

Director of Debate at the University of Florida, has been coaching debate in college for 10+ years. He also spent a year as an assistant coach for Gulliver Preparatory (Miami, Fl. 2010) He has qualified teams to the NDT
several times and coaches teams at all levels of debate. He also has coached a team to the Tournament of
Champions. Kris debated in high school and college during the 90’s. In college, he debated in outrounds of
the National Debate Tournament, Cross Examination Debate Association National Tournament and was Phi Ro
Pi National Champion. He won several speakers awards including top speaker at Pi Kappa Delta Nationals and
ninth at CEDA Nationals. He also debated for Team USA in a world debate tour in 1997 at Oxford, Cambridge and Saint Andrews Universities.

Guy Risko - Head Coach at Binghamton University

Has coached teams to the NDT and to the elimination rounds of CEDA national tournament. While debating at the University of Pittsburgh, Guy also qualified for those same tournaments. While coaching high school, he coached teams to the NCFL and NFL tournament in LD and policy debate and into elimination rounds of the TOC in Public Forum..

Mark Waugh - Senior Varsity Debater at James Madison University

Currently a senior Varsity debater at JMU, began policy debate as a novice his freshman year, where he started out strong with several championships, including the title of Novice National Champion. Since then has gone on to win several more championships and elimination round appearances. Qualified for the NDT his junior year and curerntly working towards qualifying again for his senior year.

Sam Strasser - Assistant Coach at James Madison University

4 year high school LD debater, placed second in VHSL State Championship, two years previous experience coaching LD at JDI and two year policy debater at JMU, qualifying for elimination rounds at the ADA tournament, octofinalist at JV/Novice Nationals. Currently JMU Policy Debate Novice Coach, having coached teams into multiple elimination rounds.
