JMU is located in Harrisonburg, a progressive city of 35,000. The area, located in the heart of Virginia's historic Shenandoah Valley, is flanked by the Blue Ridge Mountains on the east and the Alleghenies on the west.

Directions
Harrisonburg is at the intersection of three major highways: Interstate 81, U.S. 33 and U.S. 11. The JMU campus entrances are located just off Interstate 81, and JMU is only a two-hour drive from Richmond, Roanoke and Washington, D.C.

From 81 North:
Exit 245, JMU exit. Take a left at the exit ramp and get in the right lane. Go through one light. Take a right at the second light into campus onto Bluestone Drive.

From 81 South:
Exit 245 in Harrisonburg, clearly marked as JMU. At the top of the exit ramp, take a right onto Port Republic Rd. Then take a quick right into campus onto Bluestone Drive.

From Route 33W:
Follow 33 into town. After you pass the mall and several shopping centers, look for signs for 81S. Get on 81S and get off at the next exit, 245. Follow directions from above.
