The new Bioscience building, which houses the Department of Biology, the Pre-Professional Health Advising office, and the College of Science and Mathematics Dean's office, is complete! The award-winning Professors You Love series from JMU's Madison magazine recognizes the special relationships among students and professors. The articles are written by JMU students and alumni about the professors who have made the most impact on their lives. Leary (Chemistry), Laura Taalman (Mathematics & Statistics), and William Voige (Chemistry).

 

Dr. Kristen St. John and Dr. Eric Pyle (Department of Geology) have been invited to serve as Distinguished Speakers for the National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT). This program highlights knowledgeable Geoscience education professionals that groups can host for workshops on innovative teaching techniques, curriculum reform, and cutting-edge Geoscience education research. Our JMU professors represent two of only twelve distinguished speakers for the 2010-2011 NAGT program series!

 

Professor Hasan Hamdan (Department of Mathematics and Statistics) was awarded the 2010 Legacy Grant Award. The JMU Emeriti Association's annual award presents an unrestircted grant to a JMU faculty member who has made significant professional contributions over time. 

 

Dr. Reid Harris (Department of Biology) was cited in recent articles in Discover Magazine (see story) and the New York Times (see story) for his research of emerging fungal diseases in amphibians.   

 

Dr. John Haynes, Dr. Steve Whitmeyer, and 2010 graduate, Seldon Walker ( Department of Geology and Environmental Services) were awarded the Vincent E. Nelson Memorial Best Poster Award for presenting the best scientific poster at the annual American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) meeting in Evansville, IN (Sept 2009).  The award was presented to Dr. Haynes at the 2010 AAPG meeting of the Eastern Section in Kalamazoo, MI on Sept. 27th.
