Service Coordinator
Student coordinator position
The Office of Community Service Learning Service Coordinator positions offers students the opportunities to make a lasting impact on both the JMU and local community through developing and sustaining vital community partnerships, working closely with faculty and staff, supporting student volunteerism, guiding structured reflections, and assisting in the the general efforts to foster civic engagement. This is a Community Service-Learning (CS-L) staff position.

The hourly wage position requires a commitment of 12 - 15 flexible hours in several hour/block periods per week for the 2009-2010 academic year. In addition, Service Coordinators are required to attend all CS-L full staff meetings and scheduled Service Coordinator meetings. Additional staff training is required in August of 2009. specific duties
- Conduct classroom visits for the purpose of communicating the services of the CS-L office and placing students in community agencies.
- Maintain regular and ongoing contact with students, faculty, and community agencies to facilitate the effective matching of needs and resources. This includes students in and out of classroom experiences and clubs and organizations of the JMU community.
- Develop and maintain accurate information on community agencies to be distributed to members of the JMU community. This includes going on site visits to community agencies throughout the semester.
- Keep and monitor accurate records regarding service learners’ experience in community agencies.
- Share in the facilitation of and actively participate in weekly CS-L staff meetings (2 hours per week).
- Actively participate in at least one standing CS-L committee.
- Active participation in the August 2009 staff training and January 2010 staff retreat.
- Share in the office duties to promote the functioning of the Community Service-Learning program.
- Maintain 10-12 hours per week. This includes 6 office hours for administrative tasks and office coverage, and 4-6 hours for site visits, community development, committee work, and a variety of other tasks.
- Plan and facilitate reflection sessions for service learners.
