Alternative Break Program--> 2009-2010 Trip Descriptions

Wise County

Southwest Virginia

Focus on Appalachia

Our Alternative Spring Break Domestic Trip will be in Wise County, located in southwest Virginia. Our group's main focus will be the study of the Appalachian culture of Virginia both past and present. This process will include analyzing social service delivery in the area and comparing the methods of social work/ social services to those in non-rural settings. We will also discover how the county's rural setting affects its social welfare system, non-profit work, and people's access to government aid. Our trip will provide students hands on activities with the Lonesome Pine Office on Youth and a strong cultural education component to help build a foundation of knowledge.

Trip leaders are Brandon Rose and Michael Parsons.

Total Cost: $250.00

This is a Domestic-Driving Trip
