What do I do at the Counseling Center?

I provide one on one, individualized counseling, group counseling, and treatment programming at the counseling center.

What's it like to work with me?

I like to work with each student in a humanistic, person-centered approach. What this means is I like to get to know the person I am working with in many facets. In our first session, I will get to know the student as an individual, discuss what their needs in coming to counseling are, and establish goals for what we will be working towards in our time together. In session, I enjoy teaching mindfulness and mediation skills, doing general process, and working with the student to develop healthy coping strategies. My areas of focus are anxiety, adjustment, grief, LBGTQIQAP+, relationship and family issues, and substance use.

What do I do at JMU outside of the Counseling Center?

I enjoy providing outreach services for the Counseling Center on JMU's campus. Sharing with students and their families what services the Counseling Center provides and how counseling can be beneficial is important and personal for me, since it was in college I first sought counseling for myself! I also enjoy speaking positively about JMU's culture and campus, since I'm an alumni. Outside of work, you will find me with family, at sporting events, and involved in community events. In addition, I am a Central Valley Counselors Association board member.
