What do I do at the Counseling Center?

I am one of the doctoral interns at the JMU center this year and provide individual services to JMU students. In addition to providing individual services to students, I work with the Sexual Trauma Empowerment Program (STEP) and co-facilitate the STEP support group.

What's it like to work with me?

I believe that the therapeutic process should be collaborative. I hope to provide a supportive and open space where students feel that they can explore why they may be experiencing difficulty and how to move forward. I work from an attachment framework and also incorporate interpersonal process to help students better understand how they relate to themselves and others. I also like to integrate mindfulness based interventions in my work. Although a generalist by training, some of my interests include: student-athlete mental health concerns, trauma, disordered eating and body image concerns, and identity.

What do I do outside of the Counseling Center?

I am a member of the Campus Coalition Against Sexual Assault committee, as well as the Care And Recovery Enhancement (CARE) multidisciplinary team within JMU Sports Medicine. I also frequent the Starbucks at Carrier.
