Peer Mentor Program
The Counseling and Student Development Center's Peer Mentor Program was established in 1986 to help first year and transfer multicultural and international students make a successful and rewarding transition from high school to JMU. The program provides an excellent opportunity to meet a diverse group of students who share similar experiences and interests. The peer protege connection provides an academic, cultural, and social support network for students seeking academic excellence and satisfaction.
The Peer Mentor Program is staffed by upper-class undergraduate students who are interested in helping multicultural and international students overcome the obstacles they may encounter during their first year at JMU. The peer mentors are trained to help students with study skills, time management, and class scheduling. They are also available to lend a confidential listening ear.
