Immediate Assistance in an Emergency
At times, a student may find her/himself dealing with a personal crisis which necessitates immediate attention by a mental health professional (e.g., suicidal or homicidal thoughts or actions, sexual assault, death of a significant person). In such situations, a counselor can assist the student both with problem solving and helping regain her/his usual coping abilities and sense of control.
Depending upon the nature, location, and timing of an emergency, your options are:
- Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM:
- Call the CSDC (540-568-6552) or come in to Varner House
- After hours:
- Call Public Safety (540-568-6911) who will assess the situation and, if necessary, contact the counseling center staff member on call
- Go to the Emergency Room at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, 235 Cantrell Ave, (540-433-4393).
