Counseling Services at Varner House
The Counseling & Student Development Center offers individual, group, and substance abuse counseling to JMU students. During your initial appointment a counselor can help you decide which service would be the most beneficial to you.
Individual Counseling
Forget about what you see in the movies; for one thing there's no couch. Individual counseling facilitates the exploration of a problem or issue in a safe and confidential environment. Counseling at the CSDC is a collaborative endeavor in which the counselor and client work together to identify goals and directions for treatment.
Group Counseling
During the Fall and Spring Semesters of each academic year, the Counseling Center offers undergraduate and graduate students a number of small group experiences on issues related to their needs. There is no session limit on group participation.
CSDC Group Offerings:
- Anxiety & Stress Management
- Coping with Grief
- Eating Issues
- General Issues
- Mindfulness
- Pride (GLBTQ Support)
- Women's Process Group
