Client Rights & Responsibilities

Students utilizing CSDC services have fundamental rights and responsibilities regarding the counseling they receive.

Clients have the right:

  • To be served promptly when they arrive for appointments.
  • To be treated with dignity and respect.
  • To know the names and professional status of the counselor providing services.
  • To privacy.
  • To confidentiality of their records.
  • To receive accurate information about their psychological/psychiatric concerns.
  • To know the effectiveness, possible side effects, and problems of all forms of treatment.
  • To participate in choosing a form of treatment.
  • To consent to, or refuse, any care or treatment.
  • To request and/or change their Counselor.
  • To information about services and any related costs.
  • To be referred to other professionals when the CSDC cannot provide needed services.

Clients have the responsibility:

  • To seek mental health attention promptly.
  • To be honest about their medical and mental health history.
  • To ask about anything they do not understand.
  • To follow the treatment plan developed with their counselor(s).
  • To report any significant changes in symptoms or failure to improve.
  • To respect and follow CSDC policies.
  • To keep appointments or cancel in advance.
  • To seek non-emergency care during regular business hours.
  • To provide useful feedback about CSDC services and policies.
