Client Rights & Responsibilities
Students utilizing CSDC services have fundamental rights and responsibilities regarding the counseling they receive.
Clients have the right:
- To be served promptly when they arrive for appointments.
- To be treated with dignity and respect.
- To know the names and professional status of the counselor providing services.
- To privacy.
- To confidentiality of their records.
- To receive accurate information about their psychological/psychiatric concerns.
- To know the effectiveness, possible side effects, and problems of all forms of treatment.
- To participate in choosing a form of treatment.
- To consent to, or refuse, any care or treatment.
- To request and/or change their Counselor.
- To information about services and any related costs.
- To be referred to other professionals when the CSDC cannot provide needed services.
Clients have the responsibility:
- To seek mental health attention promptly.
- To be honest about their medical and mental health history.
- To ask about anything they do not understand.
- To follow the treatment plan developed with their counselor(s).
- To report any significant changes in symptoms or failure to improve.
- To respect and follow CSDC policies.
- To keep appointments or cancel in advance.
- To seek non-emergency care during regular business hours.
- To provide useful feedback about CSDC services and policies.
