If I have assigned a publisher my work, can I still use it?

If you have transfered all of your rights to a publisher, some uses might actually infringe the copyright, which is now owned by the publisher. This is why it is important to carefully examine and negotiate, if necessary, the publication agreement that you sign.

However, the other provisions of copyright that allow use without permission, like Fair Use, all still apply.
