Students must have faculty permission to record lectures in a permanent tangible form like an audio or video recording, or even an exact transcript. Lectures are the copyrighted property of the individual faculty member and the exclusive rights are held by that faculty.
Syllabi, and other course material developed by a faculty member are also protected and should not be copied or distributed without permission, either express or through a license like a Creative Commons License.
