K-12 History

The 2011 History/Social Studies Content Academy afforded teachers an opportunity to explore key topics in United States History and U.S. Government with master teachers known for their command of the subjects and their awareness of the realities of classroom instruction. Participants increased their knowledge of both academic content and instructional strategies for improving student understanding and performance. The sessions placed special emphasis on some of the most important areas of concern in the S.O.L. curricula for these subjects. This year’s content focus was U.S. History from the Early National Period  through the Civil War. Instructors were selected for their enthusiasm, energy, and expertise. The goal of the academy was to have participants leave with an increased understanding of the subjects covered, an enhanced array of teaching techniques for imparting that information, and a plethora of resources to sustain them in their endeavors.
