Credit Options

 

 

 

There are three options for enrollment. (With the exception of the ASOL Special Education Academy, see note below). Participants are advised to verify requirements of their school division before making this choice.

 

 

 

 

Graduate Course Credit: This option is for 3 hours of graduate course credit. Participants choosing this option must:

 

  • Pay an additional fee of $300 AND submit a graduate credit application no later than 5 pm on Monday, June 23, 2008.

 

In addition to attending all regular Academy sessions, graduate course participants are required to:

 

  • Attend two additional sessions during the week of the Academy AND complete assignments after the Academy as designated by the course syllabus.

 

Upon completion of these requirements, participants will receive a course grade. Participants who need verification of course completion must request a copy of their transcript from the JMU registrar's office. Instructions for requesting a transcript are available at: http://www.jmu.edu/registrar/transcripts.shtml.

 

Recertification Credit: This option is for 30 hours of participation in a professional development institute. In addition to attending all regular Academy sessions, participants who opt for the recertification credit option are required to:

 

  • Complete an assignment after the week of the Academy as designated by the Academy guidelines.

 

Upon successful completion of these requirements, participants will receive a certificate indicating 30 hours of professional development as designated by the HOUSSE Standards set by the Virginia Department of Education. Please note that Academy personnel do not award renewal credit points.

 

Audit: Participants who do not wish to receive any licensure renewal credits or graduate credit can audit an Academy.

 

ASOL Special Education Academy:  Participants will receive a CERTIFICATE of COMPLETION only. English and Mathematics are the emphasis. All professional development hours and assignments will be completed during the week-long Academy.
