Novell Netware File/Print Servers to be Retired

One of the final steps in the completion of the network file storage migration project from last spring is the removal of the Novell NetWare Client in order to retire the Novell NetWare file/print servers. Starting back in September, Information Technology deployed an automated process to remove the Novell NetWare Client from faculty and staff Windows XP computers joined to the JMUAD domain. The removal process took place over a three month period. As of this date, there are computers still logging in using the NetWare Client.

These computers need to have the NetWare Client removed by February 29, 2012 to allow employees to continue to log into their computers. A message will be displayed on those computers still logging in through the Novell NetWare Client. If you receive the message below on your computer, please follow the manual removal process as outlined here: http://www.jmu.edu/computing/file/netwareremoval.shtml. Note:  you must be logged in as the administrator of your computer to perform these steps.

This message displayed because this computer still logs on
using Novell Client32 software. Desktop Services attempted
automatic removal of the Novell Client32 software on
JMUAD domain joined computers. Removal has either failed
on this system or this system isn't domain joined. Please contact the
HelpDesk at x83555 for further assistance with removal of the Netware Client32 software ASAP!
