Importing Clips into the Clip Gallery

The Import Clips button in the Clip Gallery window allows you to bring graphic files from your computer into the Clip Gallery. These images will then be available through the Clip Gallery in any Office program.

Read through the steps:. If you would like to complete these steps in an actual Office file, create a new Office file and then proceed through the steps. (Follow this link for instructions on creating a new Office file.)

Practice the Skill
  1. From within an Office 2000 program, click >Insert>Picture>ClipArt to open the Clip Gallery.
    The Clip Gallery opens.

  2. At the top of the Clip Gallery window, click Import Clips.
    The Add clip to Clip Gallery dialog box opens.

  3. Navigate to the location of the file containing the picture that you want to import. Select the picture and choose one of the options under Clip import option. Usually, the default, Copy into Clip Gallery is the best.Then click Import.
    The picture is imported into the Clip Gallery and the Clip Propertiesdialog box opens.

  4. In the text box on the Description tab, enter a description of the clip, if desired. Select the Categories tab and choose which categories you want the clip to be placed in by checking the boxes beside them. Finally, select the Keywords tab and enter additional keywords for the clip so that it will appear when keyword searches are performed.Click OK when you have finished making your choices.
    The desired description, categories, and keywords for the imported clip are entered. The imported clip appears in a Clip Gallery window of its own.

  5. To verify that it has been placed in the appropriate category, click the Back button at the top of the Clip Gallery window, and then click on one of the categories which you chose in step 4. Look for the clip you just imported.
    The image you imported appears in one of the categories you chose.
