Downloading Clips from the Microsoft Web Site
The Clips Online button in the Clip Gallery window allows you to add to the Office Clip Gallery files from Microsoft's Clip Gallery Live on the Web. You may download clip art images as well as animated graphics and sounds. This process works smoothly if Internet Explorer is your default Web browser. If Netscape Navigator is your default browser, the download process is not so smooth. Two modifications to the download process are suggested at the end of the step-by-step instructions below; either of them will allow you to use the download feature when Netscape Navigator is your default browser.

The Clips Online button for downloading from Clip Gallery Live
Read through the steps:. If you would like to complete these steps in an actual Office file, create a new Office file and then proceed through the steps.(Follow this link for instructions on creating a new Office file.)
Practice the Skill
-
From within any MS Office 2000 program, click Insert>Picture>Clipart
to open the Clip Gallery.
The Clip Gallery opens. -
Click Clips Online at the top of the window.
Your Web browser opens to Microsoft’s Clip Gallery Live. -
Browse the End User License Agreement and click to accept its terms.
The Clip Gallery Live page opens. -
On the Clip Gallery Live page, use the search boxes to search the
site for specific clips, or click on the links to browse the site.
-
As you browse through the pages of clipart, click in the
checkboxes to select clips you would like to download.
If you want just one clip, click Download underneath it to
download it immediately.
-
After you have made your selections, click the Download
link. Or
you may click Selection Basket to view your selections and delete
any that you do not want; then click Download.
An information page opens; click Download Now to begin the
downloading process.
The selected clips are downloaded and the Clip Gallery opens. -
The clips that you selected will automatically be placed into the
Downloaded Clips category in the Clip Gallery.
Click on this category in the Clip Gallery window to open it.
The Downloaded Clips category opens. - To file your clips in appropriate places in the Clip Gallery, right-click on each and choose Properties. On the Description page you may write a description of the clip, if desired. On the Categories page, you may decide which categories you want the clip to be placed in by checking the box beside the category's name. Finally, on the Keywords page, you may enter additional keywords for the clip so that it will appear when keyword searches are performed. Click OK when you have finished making your choices.
-
Another way to file clips into categories is to left-click
on one of them, and choose the Add clip to Favorites or other
category button
from the graphic menu that appears. Use the dropdown box to choose a
category for the selected clip and click Add.
(To categorize several clips in the same category, hold down Ctrl as
you select clips.)
Clips are filed in the appropriate categories.
NOTE:When Netscape Navigator is your default browser and you attempt to download clips from within the Clip Gallery as described above, you are asked to save the clips to a file instead of the clips being automatically downloaded to the Clip Gallery. There are two ways to handle this situation:
-
Save the clips to a file, renaming it if necessary so that you can remember which file
contains the clips you downloaded. (The default names are not very helpful.)
Once the clips have been downloaded, navigate to their location in either Windows Explorer or My Computer, and
double-click on the file to open it.& The downloaded clips will appear in a window (actually the
Downloaded Clips category).
You may then categorize the clips as described in #7 and 8 above. - An easier method for working around the difficulty when Netscape is your default browser is not to download from within the Office Clip Gallery. Instead, simply open Internet Explorer and to navigate to the Clip Gallery Live page (www.microsoft.com/clipgallerylive). Choose clips and download them as described above. The Clip Gallery will be automatically opened and the clips will appear in a window. Use methods described above to place the clips in the categories in which you want them to appear.
