Using the Save As Command to Rename a File or Save It to a New Location

Once a file has been saved to disk, Word updates the existing file with any changes each time you subsequently save the document.

There may be times, however, when you want to save the current document with a different document name and/or to a different location. You can save an existing document with a different file name or location using the Save As dialog box. This option allows you to modify a document and save the changes, but still keep the original document intact.

When you save an existing file with a new name, the original file automatically closes and the file appears in the document area with its new name.
