Identity Finder


Identity Finder

  • Identity Finder software is designed to locate personally identifiable information (PII). It will detect sensitive information such as Social Security Numbers (SSNs), Bank Account numbers, and credit card numbers stored on computers.

 

Service Implementation: 

  • August 1, 2014
  • JMU Information Technology will be working with departments to incorporate Identity Finder scans into their departmental practices

 

Audience: 

  • Users of JMU-owned Windows and Macintosh computers

 

Computer Owner Responsibility:

  • Installation of Identity Finder software application
  • Running the software scan quarterly or the timeframe designated by your department
  • Processing the results of the scans

 

Installing the softwareon JMU-owned computers:

  • Installing the software on JMU-owned computers:
     Windows Computers:  JMU domain-joined managed computers have Identity Finder available for installation through the Microsoft System Center  (see the Software Install section on the Desktop Management website http://www.jmu.edu/computing/deskmgmt/ for instructions). 
     Apple Computers:  Manual Installation at this time.  Soon Identity Finder will be available to managed Apple computers.  Please contact the IT Help Desk at helpdesk@jmu.edu for assistance.
