How To Search for Files and Folders in Windows XP
- Click Start, and then click Search.
- In the Search Companion box click All files and folders.
- Fill in the All or part of the file name box with part or all of the name of the folder or file (or the file's extension, such as .doc for a Word document, .xls for Excel, .ppt for Powerpoint, etc).
-OR-
Fill in the A word or phrase in the file box with something you remember was typed in the file.
- In the Look in box, click the drive (such as Local Disk C:), or folder (such as My Documents, etc.), or network drive (such as Data on 'NWData1'(N:) or NWData2, etc.) that you want to search.
- If you want to narrow your search further (or if you do not know what information to fill in on step 3 above), do the following:
- Click When was it modified? to specify files that were created or modified on or between specific dates.
- Click More advanced options to specify additional search criteria.
- Click Search.
