Salvaging Deleted Network Files using the Salvage feature of the Novell NetWare client for Windows XP/Vista
One of the benefits of having the Novell NetWare client installed on your Windows computer is the ability to salvage (recover) deleted files stored on a network drive (i.e. J:, K:, L:, N: or M:). You can salvage files and folders that have been deleted from Netware volumes if they have not been purged yet.
- After logging onto your Novell NDS/NetWare account right click on Start, and then click Explore.

(Windows XP)
or

(Windows Vista)

- In the left pane, under My Computer (Windows XP) or Computer (Windows Vista) browse to the directory or folder that the files/folders were deleted from on the respective network drive.
(Windows XP)
or

(Windows Vista)
- Right click on the folder and select Salvage Files from the menu.
(Windows XP)
or

(Windows Vista)
- Salvage Network Files window should open up. This would show the status of salvageable files (folders). Select the files and/or folders that you want to salvage (hold down Ctrl key for multiple selections). Click on Salvage File button.

- If a file matching the same filename does happen to exist, you will be prompted with a Rename Salvageable File box. If this box appears, be sure to include the new filename along with its correct extension (i.e. .doc, .xls etc). Click OK.

- When you are finished salvaging, the files should be restored to their original location on the network drive. After choosing the Close button on the Salvage Network Files window, you may need to choose View then Refresh in order for Windows to display the newly salvaged file(s).
Additional items worth noting:
-
Salvaging a folder does not salvage its contents. You must salvage the folder first and then salvage its contents.
-
The Salvage All button can be used to salvage all files; however we do not encourage you to try this.
