Logging into Peregrin

To log into Peregrin, you must use a Telnet program that uses the SSH protocol for a secure connection. You can use a program called Putty (can be downloaded from http://www.jmu.edu/computing/download) and is found on most lab machines. After you launch Putty, in the host name box, type peregrin.jmu.edu, then select SSH for the Protocol and click on the Open button at the bottom of the window. Or under stored sessions, you can double click on the saved Peregrin session. Putty will connect to Peregrin and then ask for your username and password.

To transfer files to Peregrin from your PC, you can use a program called WS-FTP (can be downloaded from http://www.jmu.edu/computing/download). You must setup the Peregrin password before using WS-FTP to transfer files. After setting up a password, you can then login to WS-FTP. The Session Properties should be those shown below. When it asks for UserID and Password, please insert your Peregrin username and Peregrin password.

IMPORTANT: The HelpDesk can assist with Peregrin account creation, problems with logging in, or quota issues. The HelpDesk does not support creating web pages, problems with html code, or problems with file permissions.
