Computing Ergonomics
Maximizing your comfort, health, and effectiveness is the goal of computing ergonomics. Extensive research results in easy to follow recommendations concerning the position and use of your computer which can lead to dramatic improvements in the way you work and in the way you feel.
- Recommendations include things such as:
- Placing your keyboard just above the level of your lap and keeping your elbows at an open angle
- Positioning your monitor about an arms length away (when you're sitting back in your chair)
- Tilting your monitor slightly upward, such that the bottom of the monitor is slightly closer to you than the top, allowing you to view the monitor straight on
- Considerations related to lighting, your chair, your desk, work habits, etc.
- The use of products such as glare screens, foot operated mice, etc.
You can learn much more about how to best set up your computing environment at numerous websites. HealthyComputing.com has extensive recommendations to help get you started. Good luck with your ergonomic modifications!
