Connecting using CIFS on Vista

 

1.  Connect to the JMU Network by logging in through your VPN Client. For instructions explaining how to do this, see What is Remote Access?

2.  Launch Windows Explorer.

3.  On the Menu Bar of Windows Explorer, click Tools and select Map Network Drive...

4.  Select an unused drive letter in the Drive: field.

5.  Type \\Your Server Name \ Share Name in the Folder field and click Finish. Examples of server names are:

  • \\nwdata1.fs.jmu.edu\data
  • \\nwdata2.fs.jmu.edu\data
  • \\nwdata3.fs.jmu.edu\data


6.  You will see the connection dialog and a login prompt.  At the login prompt, enter your e-ID and Password and click OK.

7.   Another Windows Explorer window will open showing the contents of the drive you just mapped.
