New Computer Setups for JMU-owned Computers
Desktop Services provides new computer setup and software installation services for JMU owned computers. The service ensures new JMU computers are setup to specific internal security standards to include operating system setups, operating system updates, antivirus installs and JMU standard internet settings. In addition, Desktop Services will install application software and assist with transferring files saved on the hard drive of older computers to the new system (please note: saving data files to the network is recommended over saving files to a hard drive). To request a new computer software install, fill out the online Setup and Installation Request Form or contact the Computing HelpDesk at 568-3555.
You should expect a call back from Desktop Services within 24 business hours (8am-5pm, M-F) to setup an appointment to install your computer.
Standard Software Install
The software listed below is installed on all new computers. Desktop Services will also install additional software packages for you. If it is JMU owned software, your license (if required) will be verified, and the software installed. If it is departmental or personally owned software, we ask that you provide the original CDs and documentation.
