James R. Briscoe (JR) earned his Ph.D. in communication from the University of Memphis in 2017 and joins JMU as a lecturer for the School of Communication Studies where he will teach the basic course.

His primary research interests include the study and exploration of the rhetoric of apology and its uses in political communication. He has previously served as the assistant director of the Communication and Writing Center at the University of Memphis and as the editorial assistant for the Southern Communication Journal.
