Iccha Basnyat, Ph.D., joined James Madison University in 2018. Prior to JMU, she spent a number of years in the Department of Communication at the National University of Singapore. She teaches in the health communication concentration.

Her research primarily examines the cultural context of health, structural limitations to health, health inequalities, and health experiences at the margins. Her research also focuses on examining public health communication campaigns to evaluate, critique, and suggest future initiatives that can bring about social change. She has published in Communication, Theory, Health Communication, Journal of Health Communication, Culture, Health & Sexuality, Qualitative Health Research, Health Education & Behavior as well as other journals and books. 

She received her Ph.D. from Purdue University in health communication, her M.P.H. from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and her B.A. from in communication from the University of Utah.
