In Memoriam Dr. Mae Frantz
1925-2008
Dr. Mae M. Frantz, Professor Emeritus, died Friday September 12, 2008 at the age of 83. Dr. Frantz earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Mississippi State College for Women, a Master of Arts degree from University of Mississippi, and Ph.D. in Communication from Florida State University.
After serving on the faculty for 28 years, Dr. Frantz retired from the Communication Arts Department (now Communication Studies) in 1992. During her tenure in the department, she founded the Public Relations and Organizational Communication programs, currently two of the largest programs in the department. She also founded the JMU student chapter of International Business Communicators. After retiring from JMU, Dr. Frantz remained active in the JMU Faculty Women’s Caucus and the American Association of University Women.
Dr. Frantz was a friend, mentor, and esteemed colleague. We will miss you, Mae.
