Health Communication Internships

       Interns must meet the following criteria:

ü      Be a Health Communication major

ü      At least a 2.5 overall GPA

ü      Completed SCOM Core with “C” or better

ü      At least 75 hours of course credit

ü      Successful completion (C or better) of the courses relevant to the planned internship.

ü      Have 2 letters of recommendation

 

How to arrange for your internship:

1.  Early in the fall semester of your junior year begin searching for your internship site.

2.  Meet with the internship coordinator to discuss your internship opportunities and for the forms you will need to complete prior to beginning your internship.

3.  After completing the proper forms, the SCOM office manager will create the course for you (SCOM 495a or b). You can then register for the course on e-campus.

  Required number of hours to be worked at the internship site:

Fall/Spring Semesters
For three credit hours in one semester (Communication Studies 495A), 160 hours are required, which are typically done by 10 hours a week for 16 weeks.
For six credit hours in one semester (enroll in Communication Studies 495C), 320 hours are required, which are typically done by 20 hours a week for 16 weeks.

Summer Semesters:
For three credit hours a total of 160 hours; which are typically done by 20 hours per week over 8 weeks, or 40 hours per week for four weeks.
For six credit hours a total of 320 hours; which are typically done by 40 hours per week over 8 weeks.
