Dr. Tim Ball is an assistant professor in the School of Communication Studies and has been a faculty member at JMU since 1998. He teaches the Fundamental Human Communication course (also known as GCOM 121) and has served as the GCOM Basic Course Director in the General Education Program since 2003.
In addition to the GCOM course, Dr. Ball teaches SCOM 280 Introduction to Communication Research, SCOM 350 Introduction to Organizational Communication, SCOM 358 Business & Professional Communication, and SCOM 450 Advanced Organizational Communication.
Dr. Ball’s research interests include the assessment of cognitive, behavioral, and affective measures on communication competence; the impact of service-learning on students’ cognition, behavior, and affect in organizational communication courses; and how students can create a community in an online learning environment and collaborate together to accomplish group tasks.
He lives in Harrisonburg with his wife, Joan (who is a second grade teacher at Spotswood Elementary School), and their two cats: Little One (aka the Dude or Little Dude) and Abigail.
