COMMENCEMENT DAY is a momentous event in the lives of graduates, their families and friends. James Madison University’s philosophy of inclusiveness - known as "all together one" - extends throughout the student’s years at college and beyond. Consistent with that philosophy, while dealing with the challenges and opportunities presented by the expansion project at Bridgeforth Stadium, the University has made several changes to the May commencement exercises. One of these changes is the introduction of the Senior Convocation.

The university is pleased to announce, in collaboration with the Senior Class Council,  the first Senior Convocation for graduating undergraduate students to be held on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 7:00 pm in the Convocation Center.  This special ceremony is for students only (due to space limitations) and we are honored to announce Mr. Blake Mycoskie, founder and chief shoe giver of TOMS Shoes, Inc., as the speaker for the Senior Convocation.  Blake and his company are doing amazing work to make shoes available to people throughout the world who would otherwise go without. You are invited to consult his website.

No doubt he will be an inspiring speaker! Following the Senior Convocation, the Alumni Association will sponsor a reception for the seniors.  More information on both these events will be coming in the next weeks.

It is our hope that these changes will enhance the personal nature of commencement for our graduates and their families. The May 2010 commencement schedule is as follows:
