Directions to JMU

When you reach Harrisonburg, tune your radio to 1610 AM for announcements on Commencement Day traffic and parking conditions. Due to the extremely heavy Commencement traffic on Saturday, please consider walking to campus or riding the Harrisonburg bus transit system or the JMU buses from the South Main Street hotels to reach you Commencement site on Saturday.

Directions

Use Exit 245 from Interstate 81 to reach the Port Republic Road and Main Street entrances to campus.
Use Exit 247A from Interstate 81 to reach the Convocation Center or Carrier Drive entrance to campus. After exiting from the interstate, travel east on U.S. 33 (Market Street). Turn right at the second traffic light onto University Boulevard, which takes you to JMU.

If you choose to drive to, please consider parking in these designated lots that are closest to the specific commencement ceremony site:

College of Art & Letters (JMU Quad, near Wilson Hall) and College of Visual & Performing Arts (Duke Hall lawn)

From 81 Southbound, take Harrisonburg Exit #247B (Rt. 33 West) to a left on Cantrell Avenue. Follow this to the Grace Street or Warsaw St. parking decks.

From 81 Northbound, take Harrisonburg exit #243 (Rt. 11) to a right on Rt. 11 which will take you to campus, parallel to Rt. 81 and will help you avoid the congestion of Port Republic Rd. Follow Rt. 11 to access Lot K, or the Warsaw parking deck.

Warsaw Parking Lot (Warsaw Street) – access the campus through the tunnel from the Forbes Center for the Performing Arts

Special parking is available for vehicles with DMV-issued handicapped license plates or permits. Handicapped parking and seating for guests in wheelchairs will be available at all locations. Please inform us of other special needs for disabled persons as soon as possible.
