POINT!

Point, point, point...
Point to the window,
Point to the door,
Point to the ceiling,
Point to the floor,
Point to your elbow,
Point to your knee,
Point to you and point to me!

BLOW A KISS

Open - shut them,
Give a little clap.
Open - shut them,
Open - shut them.
Lay them in your lap.
Roll them, roll them,
Roll them, roll them,
Roll them just like this.
Wave them, wave them,
Wave them, wave them,
And blow a little kiss.

QUIET HANDS

I stretch my fingers way up high
(raise hands)
Until they almost reach the sky
(wiggle fingers)
I lay them in my lap you see
(cross hands in lap)
Where they are as quiet as they can be.
(whisper the word QUIET)

WE CAN JUMP

We can jump, jump, jump,
We can hop, hop, hop,
We can clap, clap, clap,
We can stop, stop, stop.
We can nod our heads for yes.
We can shake our heads for no.
We can bend our knees a little bit
And we can sit down slow.

PAIRS

Two things make a pair
(Hold up two fingers.)
And on me, I'll show you where.
(Point to self.)
I have two ears and I have two eyes.
(Point to ears and eyes.)
Both are important to make me wise!
I have two holes in my nose.
(Point to nose.)
That lets me smell a beautiful rose.
(Pretend to smell rose.)
I have two hands that can clap a beat.
(Clap hands together.)
I have two feet that are really neat!
(Jump when saying the word NEAT.)

RIGHT HAND, LEFT HAND

This is my right hand.
(Hold up hand.)
I raise it up high.
This is my left hand.
(Hold overhead.)
I touch the sky.
Right hand, left hand,
(Raise one then the other.)
Roll them round and round.
(Roll in front of you.)
Right hand, left hand,
Let's all sit down!

Each JMU student selects a finger play, poem, or song to share with the children during the semester.  They place copies in the file box near the meeting area in the main classroom and practice by teaching them to their colleagues in the Introduction to ECED class.  They begin sharing their transitions with the children during their third week of participation and continue to use them throughout the semester.  This page is a sampling of the kinds of transitions the children learn from their "JMU teachers."
