Deborah Detamore Showker (Debbie) is a 1978 graduate of JMU, with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education (PreK-4) and minor in Education. Since graduating, she spent 30 years as an Elementary School Teacher in Rockingham County Public Schools, also serving as the building Technology-Math Coordinator, Team Leader, and Volunteer Coordinator for 15 years.  She additionally completed the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers Certification (NETS*T).  In addition, she was a 20-year Clinical Faculty member of the Mid-Valley Consortium for Teacher Education, mentoring pre-service teachers. 

She is currently serving on the Executive Advisory Council for the College of Education.  In addition to her service to JMU, she spends time as a volunteer and substitute teacher for Rockingham County Public Schools.  As a Certified Official for USA Track & Field (USATF), she volunteers at many Track and Field Meets in an effort to provide safe and fair competitive opportunities for Virginia athletes.  She and her husband, Joe, operate Showker Enterprises, a web based business promoting entrepreneurship and leadership team development.

Debbie is married to Joe (’79).  They have two daughters, Jennifer and Christen (’12, ’13M)

The Showker family “Bleeds Purple” as they continue their generational commitment to JMU, including alumni relations, athletics and academics, especially business, education and psychology in an effort to enhance the future of all JMU students both present and future.
