Suzanne McVay Ridgway is a 1980 graduate of JMU, with a BS in Home Economics with concentrations in Interior Design and Education.  While at JMU, she was active with the University Program Board, serving as secretary and chairman.  During her tenure as chairman, she represented UPB on several faculty and administrative boards.  Since graduating she has taught in King William County, Newport News City and Henrico County public schools.  After 6 years in the classroom, Suzanne worked as a consultant for Henrico County, leading the curriculum development of the Two Plus Two Child Care Occupations Technical Guide for the consortium of secondary schools that link with the Early Childhood Development program at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College.

Suzanne has remained active with JMU through involvement with the President’s Council, Parents Council and the College of Education Advisory Board.  She and her husband, Frank (’80) are honored to have funded the Ridgway Athletic Endowed Scholarship.

In addition to service to JMU, she has been an active volunteer in her church and community.  Suzanne has been a member of the adult choir and handbell choir at Trinity UMC and directed the preschool children’s choir for 20 years, ‘retiring’ in 2013.   At Trinity, she was involved in the United Methodist Women’s organization, serving as secretary for 4 years and president for 4 years.  She was active in both Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, serving as a leader in both groups for 18 years.  A love of swimming led to her involvement as swim team president for her neighborhood pool and serving on the board of the Greater Richmond Aquatic League.  Currently she volunteers and substitutes in an elementary school in Chesterfield County Public Schools.

Suzanne is married to Frank and has three children, Megan (’09), Sarah and Josh (currently at JMU).
