Waive Praxis I with SAT or ACT Scores

 

Approved by the Virginia Board of Education on 3/24/2004

 

You can be waived from taking the Praxis I tests if your SAT® scores meet certain minimums:

 

For SAT® tests taken after April 1, 1995

1100 total

with at least

530 on the verbal test

and

530 on the mathematics test

 

For SAT® tests taken before April 1, 1995

1000 total

with at least

450 on the verbal test

and

510 on the mathematics test

 

 

Approved by the Virginia Board of Education on 9/22/2004

 

You can be waived from taking the Praxis I tests if your ACT® scores meet certain minimums:

 

For ACT® tests taken after April 1, 1995

at least

24 Composite Score

and

22 Mathematics

and

46 English plus Reading

 

For ACT® tests taken before April 1, 1995

at least

21 Composite Score

and

21 Mathematics

and

37 English plus Reading

 

The ESC has obtained SAT® and ACT® scores from JMU's Student Administration System (Peoplesoft) and has updated our database to identify students who do not have to take Praxis I for admission to Teacher Education and Virginia licensure. We will continue to update our database every Tuesday with current SAT® information.

 

If you are waived from taking the Praxis I, you must turn a copy of your scores into the ESC, Memorial Hall room 7230. To check if you have been waived from taking Praxis I, Click Here
