What is Project SPEED?

Offered by the JMU Educational Foundations and Exceptionalities Department (EFEX), Project SPEED provides online, graduate-level courses at a reduced tuition rate for special education teachers holding a valid conditional or provisional license in Virginia. These courses prepare participants for a five-year renewable license with an endorsement in special education-general education. 

Who will benefit from Project SPEED
  • Provisionally licensed Special Education teachers working with students in the K-12 GeneralEducation Curriculum in the State of Virginia.
  • Students with Disabilities who are receiving support from provisionally licensed special education teachers. 
Reasons to consider Project SPEED
  • Reduced tuition rate for Project SPEED students through the VDOE Traineeship Grant
  • Program can be completed in five semesters (consecutive)
  • Online coursework fits into your busy schedule
  • Curriculum approved by the Virginia Department of Education

Funding for Project SPEED is provided through support from the Virginia Department of Education. Tuition amounts are subject to change based on funding from the VDOE and changes in tuition rates at JMU.
