The Professional Education Unit at James Madison University consists of  11 undergraduate and 11 graduate programs across 5 colleges to prepare teachers, school administrators, counselors, psychologists, and speech therapists for licensure or advanced studies in education.

The mission of the James Madison University professional education unit is to prepare caring, knowledgeable, skilled and reflective educators who believe that all students can learn and succeed. Our candidates and faculty are committed to lifelong learning and aspire to meet educational needs in a changing, pluralistic and democratic society. The personal and professional development of candidates is accomplished by emphasizing excellence and continuous innovation in quality undergraduate, graduate and professional programs.. JMU College of Education to Host Upcoming NCATE Reaccreditation Visit

The College of Education at James Madison University School of Education is hosting an accreditation visit by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) from April 22 – 24, 2012 Interested parties are invited to submit third-party comments to the visiting team.  Please note that comments must address substantive matters related to the quality of professional education programs offered, and should specify the party's relationship to the institution (i.e., graduate, present or former faculty member, employer of graduates, etc.). Comments may be submitted no later than December 31, 2011.
