The Office of Technology and Special Projects provides support for COE infrastructure as well as for innovative and at times experimental applications of technology to enhance teaching and learning. The office partners with internal and external collaborators to pursue projects and funding opportunities of mutual interest.
Areas of current interest include virtual reality, artificial intelligence (machine induction), web video (interactive branching), performance certification, National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS*T), Strategic Recertification, Virtual Communities of Practice, discovery-based web interfaces, and 21st Century Skills, as well as .NET and Flash development.
Current partners include Microsoft Corporation, the Partnership for 21st Century Skills, the Virginia Department of Health, and the American Academy of Pediatrics, along with several Virginia PK-12 Educational Technology Consortia (e.g., Shenandoah Valley Technology Consortium, Central Virginia Consortium, Blue Ridge East Consortium) and a number of individual school divisions. Local commercial partners include Immerge and Venture Interactive.
Rich Ingram serves as the Director of the Office of Technology and Special Projects as well as the Director of the JMU Partnership for 21st Century Skills. He holds a Ph.D. in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University (Bloomington).
