JMU Alumni Make Big Impact at Swift Creek Middle School

Swift Creek Middle School is full of JMU spirit with several current faculty members having graduated from James Madison University.  Graduation years range from 1976 to 2010 and subject areas range from algebra and science to theatre.  The teachers got together earlier this year to demonstrate their JMU pride and reminisce about their diverse experiences that prepared them for careers as educators.  Swift Creek principal and JMU alumnae Mary Robinson says, “When I graduated, I felt fully prepared when I walked into my first classroom.   The teachers that come out of Madison today continue to be equally prepared, which is why we have hired so many over the years!” Recent alumnae Sara Critz adds that, “the amount of hands on experience I received throughout my time at Madison was helpful to allow me to practice what I learned in a real life setting.”  The teachers revealed that they have special connections as fellow JMU alumni and often help each other as more experienced alumni can mentor the younger teachers and in return, recent graduates can often help teach the latest technology and emerging education trends.  The group of Madison alumni seek to share a bit of the friendly and civic minded culture they experienced at Madison with students in their classrooms-and hopefully prepare a number of future Dukes along the way!

Swift Creek Middle School is located in Midlothian, VA and is part of the Chesterfield County School District.  Visit http://www.edline.net/pages/Swift_Creek_Middle for more information about Swift Creek Middle School.
