This summer Dr. Teresa Harris returns to South Africa with 14 students to explore issues in primary grade education (grades K-7). While living with families in the rural community of Manamadi, JMU education students will run a 2-week winter break program for fifth through seventh grade students that features a focus on literacy, math, science, and creative arts. Then students move to Pretoria where they will work with teachers and learners in grades 1-7 at a local government school and then on to a township school to work with teachers and grade 4-7 learners. Trips to Kruger National Park, Soweto, and Cape Town as well as seminars by the Early Childhood Education faculty and students at the University of Pretoria round out the 5-week experience.
