The James Madison University (JMU) Partnership for 21st Century Skills was created in 2005 with funding from Microsoft Corporation's Partners in Learning initiative. Building on work completed earlier with funding from the NCLB Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT) program in collaboration with the Shenandoah Valley Technology Consortium (SVTC). The JMU Partnership has funded a number of initiatives, including extension of the original JMU NETS•T Certification program, development of the Technology Integration Portfolio for Recertification (TIP•R), and the Virginia Content Repository.
In collaboration with the national Partnership for 21st Century Skills, the JMU Partnership has sponsored a variety of events around the Commonwealth to increase awareness of the importance of 21st Century Skills in an ever-flattening and ever-increasing competitive world.
