Dr. Kyle A. Huggins is an Assistant Professor of Marketing at James Madison University. He received a BS in Psychology and an MBA from Union University in Jackson, Tennessee and a Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

Dr. Huggins's research interests focus on consumer research, especially in the areas of nutrition information provision, customer gratitude, and cross-cultural influences. His research has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Consumer Research, American Journal of Public Health, Journal of Consumer Affairs, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Personal Selling & Sales Management, and Journal of Consumer Marketing, among others.  Kyle has published numerous conference proceedings for both the American Marketing Association and Association for Consumer Research. Dr. Huggins's research has won multiple awards including Best Conference Paper at the 2004 Marketing and Public Policy Conference, as well as Best Paper Awards in the Marketing and Society Track at the 2005 and 2006 Winter AMA Educators' Conferences. For his work as a graduate student, Kyle was selected as the 2006 AMA Sheth Doctoral Consortium Fellow for the University of Arkansas. Recently, Dr. Huggins won the 2011 JMU COB Best Practitioner Paper for his article in JCR, which assisted local and state governments with the passing of the M.E.A.L. Act.  For his research, Dr. Huggins was also awarded the 2009 W. Carlton Family Endowment Award, the 2009 JMU College of Business Center for Entrepreneurship Fall Research Grant, and the 2010 John L. and Jenny Stein Crowly Family Endowment Award.  Dr. Huggins also serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Consumer Affairs, and for the AMA, ACR, and MPPC conferences.

Dr. Huggins's current teaching interests include Consumer Behavior, Marketing Management, and Marketing Research. As a graduate student at the University of Arkansas, Kyle won the 2005 Walton College of Business Award for Excellence in Teaching and the campus wide 2005 Baum Teaching Award.  Just recently, Dr. Huggins was inducted as a 2011 LINKS Hall of Fame recipient for his distinguished work with LINKS competitive business simulations in the classroom.  Also for his work with LINKS, Kyle was nominated as a recipient for the 2011 Kenneth R. Bartee Award for Teaching Innovation within the JMU College of Business. 

Administratively, Dr. Huggins serves as Chair of the External Relations Committee for the department of marketing.  Over the last two years, the external relations committee has had a significant hand in the strategic vision for the department.  Along with the assistance of modifying the marketing curriculum to fit the committee’s strategic plan, Kyle has also assisted career services in bringing additional employers to campus to recruit marketing graduates, including ADP, Newell Rubbermaid, and most recently, Dell Boomi.  In coordination with this vision, Dr. Huggins has also taken on the role of Internship Coordinator and a Freshman Advisor to incoming marketing majors.  The latter role serves as a means to create a sustaining culture reflective of this initiative from day one of the students’ interaction with the marketing department.  Next, Dr. Huggins served as the departmental liaison to the College of Business Executive Advisory Council by attending yearly EAC meetings and sharing departmental goals and concerns with the council members.  Finally, Kyle serves the Harrisonburg community by serving as the Ambassador Family for the Rockingham County March of Dimes, which includes both fund-raising and speaking engagements.   

Dr. Huggins worked in various business capacities for The Pictsweet Company and Campbell Hausfeld, both located in his home state of Tennessee, and served as an assistant professor at Union University before arriving at JMU.  Kyle is married to his wife, Christie, and in 2007 became a father to boy-girl twins named Blake and Lauren.  Personally, he enjoys golf, fly-fishing, fantasy football, and most importantly, spending time with his family.
