Senior Projects

All Hospitality & Tourism Management students are required to participate in the planning and execution of a Senior Project. The project management teams, made up of five to seven seniors, affectionately refer to the events as "Theme Dinners". These productions serve 100-200 guests with a several thousand dollar budget and employ a staff of 40-50 HTM underclassmen and other volunteers.

In addition, each management team completes an actual profit/loss report as well as an income statement based on the results of their production. The final deliverable is an electronic portfolio of their production that will appear on their website.

As always, parents, grandparents and family members are in attendance. Over the last several years 96% of our senior parent(s) attended their daughter or son's production. In addition, at least one member of the HTM Advisory Council attends each production. At the end of each production, the Advisory Council member participates in a lively debrief with the management team. It is very powerful to have industry leaders sharing their perceptions of the event and "talking the business" with the students.

It is clear; the skills that students have gained in their internships and COB 300 are reinforced and expanded.
