Declare an Econ Major

 

To declare an Econ major, please bring the Change or Declaration of Major form to Dr. Ehsan Ahmed, Zane Showker Hall, Room 434 to discuss the major requirements and classes.  An Econ career advisor will be assigned to you, and you will be added to the email list to receive announcements from the department.

Admission to the Major in Economics - B.A. and B.S. Degree Programs:

Students wishing to pursue a B.A. or B.S. degree program in Economics must be formally admitted to the program in order to enroll in required core courses (331-332-385)*. In order to be admitted, a student must meet all four of the following criteria listed below.

  • Must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.500 or higher in all JMU course work;
  • Must have a 2.500 grade point average in all Economics courses completed at the time of application.
  • Must have earned a grade of B or better in Math 205, 231 or 235 and in COB 191 or Math 220, if the courses have been completed at the time of admission.
  • Once admitted, must spend at least three additional semesters at JMU in order to complete the degree

*Quantitative Finance majors can enroll in 331-332-385 without declaring an Economics major.

Admission to the Major in Economics BBA Degree Program:

Students who wish to pursue a B.B.A. degree program in Economics must meet all of the College of Business admission requirements (described in the College of Business section of the catalog) as well as the Economics requirements detailed in the B.A. and B.S. Degree Program (described above).
