A fund-raising initiative is under way to establish a scholarship in James Madison University's College of Business to honor the sixty-six (66) years of service by Professors Don Musselman and Glenn Smith in the college's Department of Computer Information Systems & Management Science.
"Glenn and Don have touched the lives of thousands of CIS majors from JMU, and CIS Executive Advisory Board believes we have a unique opportunity to make a big impact on future CIS students" says Susie Bonvouloir, CIS Board Member.
The CIS Executive Advisory Board is seeking to raise $50,000 for the Don Musselman/Glenn Smith Scholarship Endowment. This will be a permanent gift to JMU. The interest from the scholarship endowment will annually support a financially needy CIS student.
Don Musselman, a professor at JMU since 1978, has specialized in teaching computer programming. Over the years he has taught courses using Visual Basic, COBOL, Fortran, and Assembler. He has served as an Assistant Department Head and a CIS Advisor.
Glenn Smith, a professor at JMU since 1976, was named the PricewaterhouseCoopers, Don Cupoto Memorial Professor in 2001. He has been instrumental in developing the nationally recognized IT Consulting Class. In addition, he has taught courses in database systems, computer forensics for business, and computer programming.
"I think it's just wonderful,"said Smith of the scholarship effort. "I think some of these kids really need some help and I'm honored that it's going to be in my name."
