STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS

The Center for Entrepreneurship has established strategic partnerships within the university and the Shenandoah Valley.

Office of Technology Transfer

The Center for Entrepreneurship partners with the Office of Technology Transfer to bring business concepts to fruition.  Tech Transfer offers expertise in intellectual property and a startup venture fund to assist in de-risking new ventures.

ICE - Collaborative Space

The Center for Entrepreneurship, the Office of Technology Transfer, and 4-VA are joining forces to offer collaborative space for cross-disciplinary teams to develop ideas, prototypes, and business models to solve pressing problems in our world today.  Faculty can reserve classroom space for interdisciplinary, special topics courses and students can reserve space for team projects that have the potential for a future launch.  Or visit, have coffee with a fellow entrepreneur or inventor, and dream big.  Available downtown Harrisonburg in January 2014.

Business Startup Toolkit

Our partnership with the Shenandoah Valley Small Business Development Center (SVSBDC) directs students to seek free business counseling and operational expertise to launch and grow their businesses.

Madison Business Network

To provide a comprehensive approach to business development, a partnership of the Center for Entrepreneurship, the Office of Technology Transfer and the Shenandoah Valley SBDC with the participation of JMU's first lady, Mary Ann Alger, a former venture capitalist, has resulted in a formal collaboration of faculty and staff.  The Madison Business Network allows us to explore entrepreneurship and innovation in our professional and personal pursuits.  Gatherings are scheduled twice a semester.

Initiatives include university-wide business plan competition, faculty roundtables, etc.

Entrepreneurship Scholars

Entrepreneurship Scholars are entrepreneurship educators in six colleges and universities in the Valley.  We meet quarterly to share best practices and to resource one another to improve entrepreneurship education and to collaborate at a regional level.

Shenandoah Valley Innovation Coalition

The Center for Entrepreneurship is joining forces with education, government and business leaders in the Shenandoah Valley to develop a culture of innovation in the Valley.  The Shenandoah Valley Innovation Coalition meets monthly.
